Special Session

England and the Iberian Peninsula, 13c-15 c.: Cross-Cultural Exchanges

We invite papers that focus on any aspect of the relationships between
England and the Iberian Peninsula in the 13th-15th centuries. We are
particularly interested in papers that explore the literary, cultural,
political, and historical relationships between the English kingdom, on the
one hand, and the Castilian, Aragonese, Navarrese and Portuguese kingdoms,
on the other. Papers may investigate cross-cultural influences; literary
representations of Spanish or Portuguese culture in English culture and vice
versa; political and dynastic relationships, such as the Lancastrian attempt
to claim the throne of Castile; trade and economic relationships, religious
interactions, e.g., through pilgrimage routes, etc. We welcome a variety of
theoretical perspectives.

Papers are to be delivered in no more than 20 minutes.
Please submit a one-page abstract including contact information. Abstract
cover sheet may be found at http://www.wmich.edu/medieval. The deadline for
submissions is September 15, 2002. Submissions and inquiries may be sent to:
