On November 24th and 25th Munich will see a conference (organised by Gianluca Briguglia and Thomas Ricklin, and institutionally situated at Seminar für Geistesgeschichte und Philosophie der Renaissance (LMU)  and Historisches Kolleg München) with the title Politics and Vernacular: Political Thought and Linguistic Plurality between the Middle Ages and Humanism.

The provisional programme and other information can be found at http://www.phil-hum-ren.uni-muenchen.de/Misc/080909.pdf.

In case you'd like to participate: please contact either Gianluca Briguglia (gianluca.briguglia@unimi.it) or Thomas Ricklin (Thomas.Ricklin@lrz.uni-muenchen.de).

I made available the paper I read there ("Volkssprachliches im Lateinischen Kommentar: Scherbius' Discursus Politici in Aristotelis de Republica libros") at http://www.phil-hum-ren.uni-muenchen.de/php/Kuhn/ePub/Scherbius081125.pdf.

((This is just the version used for reading the paper; a such you should consider it "work in progress", and you should not expect things like pointers to literature on Scherbius or multilingual texts useful for understanding the background, but not made use of or alluded to in the paper itself. An expanded HTML version may or may not follow later.))
